A gravel base is laid down on many sections of the trail bed.

This trail on the north side of Mahlon Dickerson is an easy, family friendly out-and-back rail trail. It is great for kids, dog walking, running, and mountain biking. Along the route, there are typical North Jersey woodlands and some swampy areas the further north you go.

The Ogden Mine Rail Trail also intersects with other popular trails in Mahlon Dickerson including the Blue Trail (North) and Orange Trail.

The trail is accessible at the Saffin Pond parking area off Weldon Road on the southern end. South of this parking area, the trail continues but is considered part of the Yellow Trail and is outlined elsewhere.

Expect typical North Jersey woodlands and some minor wetlands. Deer and an occasional bear have been spotted as well.
