Runner Notes
This trail runs in a relatively straight line and does not end where it began. You'll have to run it back or take another trail (Sidewalk/Grist Mill Trail - appx. 1.5 mi or
Iron Works Loop - appx. 3.5 mi) to return to the start point.
Description
This historic roadway (ca 1859) connecting to the Montevallo Stage Coach Road was a major access route to the Tannehill Furnaces during the Civil War. Wagon shops, employee housing, and slave cabins were located along this route.
Flora & Fauna
This is a great trail for showcasing many of the local plant species. Among the many labeled trees, you'll see poplar, sycamore, pine, red oak, hickory, sparkle berry, red cedar, hawthorn, American elm, winged elm, willow oak, and white oak.
