Small portions of the trail passing through the Three Sisters and Diamond Peak Wilderness areas require wilderness permits which are free and self-issued at those locations. Wilderness permits are required for both day use and overnight stays in the wilderness from Memorial Day weekend until Oct. 31. Some trailheads require a valid recreation pass.

Description

This trail traverses through a variety of terrain, but much of the route winds through green, lush, forested forested areas. Near Crescent Lake, the route will head through an area that was burned in a wildfire, though the rest of the route follows through pristine woods predominately free of wildfire burns. The trail surface is often soft sand/soil and needled when in the backcountry, which transitions to packed fire/logging roads, and even paved roads and paths.

Most of this is trail but some is made up of logging roads. The trail even goes through Sisters on its way to the Metolious, which is a great place to refuel.
