This trail is currently not being maintained by the National Park Service because it houses critical habitat for the Cape Sable thoroughwort. The trail continues to be open, but visitors should be mindful of the potential for obstructions along the trail.

Overview

An out-and-back run through a mangrove forest, small prairie, buttonwood hammock, and finally a large marl prairie before coming to the edge of Snake Bight. This route makes for a great day of Everglades exploration. Bring a camera, binoculars, and snacks to enjoy the route and all it has to offer.

Description

Access the trailhead for this run by heading a little less than a mile north from the Flamingo Visitor Center to the Christian Point Trail Roadside Parking Area.

Starting at the Christian Point Trail Roadside Parking Area, the trail meanders gently through lush, green, mangrove forests and coastal grasslands before ending at the water's edge along the shore of Snake Bight (a small local bay). Run this trail near high tide for a higher possibility of seeing coastal wildlife.
