This trail takes you up a well-maintained track to the Hum Lake Trail junction just before you get to Duck Lake. You then climb up through a burn from 1994 which provides unlimited views of the surrounding peaks. You climb continually until you reach the saddle above Hum Lake. You can turn around here or continue on down to Hum Lake.

The trail beyond Hum Lake continues up the ridge and through another pass to the North Fork of Lick Creek. This portion of the trail has not been maintained in several years and has a lot of blowdown, brush and lost sections of trail. If you try to tackle this portion, you can continue down the North Fork of Lick Creek to its junction with Split Creek Trail and continue out to Lick Creek Road. This is a good place to shuttle a vehicle too so you don't have to do an out and back. This portion from Hum Lake to Split Creek is very difficult and good route finding skills are a must.
