Description

Meander down the McKinley Station Trail for a relaxing experience in peaceful woodlands complete with scenic streams and some of Denali's historic buildings.

Starting at the Riley Creek Mercantile or the Riley Creek Campground, follow the trail as it contours the hillside, passing the famous "Hole," where illegal activities such as gambling, consumption of alcohol, and violence were known to take place, as well as a turn-of-the-century farm that specialized in raising foxes for their fur.

Continuing on from these historic sites, the trail passes beside Hines Creek near the site of the first park headquarters, built in 1921.

Toward the end of the trail, visitors will pass two intersections: the first with the Triple Lakes Trail, and the second with the Morino Trail and the Triple Lakes Connector. For those who wish to return to the Riley Creek Mercantile or Riley Creek Campground, simply turn around and return the way you came. Otherwise, choose any of the remaining trails in this area of the park to extend your journey.

Flora & Fauna

Beautiful boreal forests dominate this area of the park. On trail, keep your eyes peeled for moose, as they are often seen enjoying the cool waters of Riley and Hines Creeks.
