Enjoy fantastic views of the southern part of Big Bend National Park as you traipse along the cliff edge on the Southeast Rim Trail.

Starting at the three-way junction between the Boot Canyon Trail, Southwest Rim Trail, and this trail, head east along the South Rim, traversing rolling terrain on a smooth dirt tread. Make sure to stop at many spots along the trail and take in the fantastic scenery around and below you. Needless to say, bringing a camera for this leg of your journey is more than worth it; you'll surely be dissapointed without one!

Follow the trail to a second three-way junction, this time between the Southeast Rim Trail, the Northeast Rim Trail, and the NE-4 Backcountry Campsite Access Trail. At this point, visitors have the option of returning the way they came. However, a better option is to continue on the Northeast Rim Trail for a new round of gorgeous views - this time looking over the towering, craggy peaks of the Chisos Mountains to the north.

Be sure to bring plenty of water along your journey (at least 1 gallon per person per day), as there is no water along the route. The combination of Big Bend's arid desert climate and a lack of proper hydration can spell trouble for even the most seasoned runners.
