Runner Notes
This trail is open to motorbikes which are often seen on the trail, particularly on weekends.
Drinking water is not readily available. Water from streams should be treated before use.
Allows for connections and loops to many other trails in the area.
The eastern part of the trail (upper Captain Jacks) is very popular with mountain bikers, again, particularly on weekends and after the workday.
Description
This is a 6-mile trail that starts at
High Drive and goes through Jones Park on its way towards Lake Morraine.
The upper section of this trail was part of the original trail heading to the summit of Pikes Peak. That trail is now closed due to restrictions accessing Lake Morraine by Colorado Springs Utilities, which uses it as a reservoir. Faint remains of the original trail can still be found on the far side of the Lake.
The trailhead is located at the top of
High Drive on the west side of the road. The trail leads due west and then to the northwest as it moves towards Lake Morraine. The lower part of the trail is known as " Upper Captain Jacks" trail and is very popular with mountain bikers.
