Runner Notes

There is an annual running event held on this trail. It is a great place to run.

Description

Start at the Trapps parking area after the bridge on 44/55. From the parking area, run back towards the bridge, go up a set of steps and continue to the left. Do not cross the bridge for this run. There is a three-way intersection where the Trapps Undercliff Trail and the Overcliff trail meet up. There is a large flat-topped boulder sitting in the middle of this intersection. The Trapps Overcliff Trail goes left.

The Overcliff Trail provides views of the small rift formed by Coxing Creek, as well as the Dicke Barr Wilderness Area. These areas are included in your day pass to Mohonk Preserve if you want to continue adventuring after this run. This side of the trail has more flora and fauna and is usually a bit more quiet than the Undercliff Trail.

Flora & Fauna

In the spring, there are lots of flowers blooming in the woods and even some on the cliff. The fall is a fantastic time to do this run. You will find newts, deer, occasional but rare black bears, porcupines, raccoons, eastern diamondback rattlesnakes, peregrine falcons, bald eagles, vultures, hawks, and lots more.
