Mt. Bross is on private property, so it cannot be legally summited. This author will not express his views, but will inform readers that some areas of this run are excellent for trail running. This trail is entirely legal as it is mapped here - the summit is technically off limits.

The land manager requires leashes for all dogs. You'll see many dogs and few leashes.

Runner Notes

This particular trail segment is steep, rocky, and loose. While realistic for sure-footed runners, a run of this path is not likely to be much fun.

Description

The descent from Bross is steep and unpleasant. Head left down the summit towards Kite Lake. Walk along dirt trails covered with loose talus. As the grade gets steeper, you'll begin to run parallel to a drainage on your left. Eventually, the switchbacks will become more gradual as you approach Kite Lake. Once you're finished, you can relish the fact that you just summited four 14ers in a single day!

To those using this trail in the other direction: what are you doing? Mt. Bross is the worst 14er of DeCaliBron. Either do them all or just do Mt. Democrat East Slopes!

Flora & Fauna

Up high, there's not much other than rocks, marmots, and pikas. As you approach Kite Lake, however, things get scenic again, with wildflowers and a nice lake near the parking lot.

Beginning the descent from Bross with a nice view of Democrat in the background. The descent is nice and firm near the top, only becoming loose granite gravel toward the bottom.
