Great elevation gain, constant downfall and exposed roots will all work to slow your pace, though it is possible to run this trail.

Starting out crossing the Elwha River, this trail leads from one amazing area of Olympic National Park to the other. As you leave the comforts of the ever-popular Elwha River Trail, you take one last glimpse of the majestic river before climbing steep into the forested ridge leading to Dodger Point. At the bridge, look up river at the Grand Canyon of the Elwha, look downriver at the Elwha River Valley and get ready to say goodbye to views. At least for a little bit.

Once you reach nearly halfway up the trail, the forest fades away, giving views toward the Bailey Range. The trees continue to fade away as you come closer to meeting the Ludden Peak Way Trail, and in the spring and fall the area is alive with flowers, color and even some animal sightings.
