Description

The out-and-back Komo Point Trail starts from the Cape Royal Road on the North Rim. This is a seldom traveled former forest road. The route goes gently and steadily downhill southwards to the rim of the canyon. It passes through numerous skeletons of burned out trees from a huge wildfire. There are several downed trees making the going slow. The trail starts out quite easy to follow but grows fainter making it a challenge to stay on track. Be sure to use the Trail Run Project mobile app if you're worried about route finding.

About 2/3 of the way along the trail it forks. The left (southern) fork leads to Ariel Point and the right (western) fork is the continuation of the Komo Point Trail. Upon reaching the rocky and rugged rim, look for the large faded yellow ball- it was used as a reference point when the canyon was being mapped by airplane. Retrace your steps back to the parking area.
