Description

Sweeney's Switchbacks starts mid-way up the mountain, near the top of the King's Crown Terrain Park. This initial section of trail has tight narrow switchbacks that don't seem to be used very often - probably because you are above the bottom of John's Trail. This section is difficult going and not worth climbing up unless you need to run every inch of it.

Where Sweeney's Switchbacks hits John's Trail, it becomes somewhat rocky for a while, making for difficult footing. But then the trail opens up and gets easier and easier all the way down towards town. There are many intersections and ski run crossings, but they're all well marked. The trail is partly shaded by aspens and fir.

As you get near the bottom, Sweeney's Switchbacks becomes a dirt road with great views of the town of Park City. There are several spur trails leading off Sweeney's Switchbacks at the bottom to provide access to various neighborhoods. You'll come across several of the historic towers that carried mining ore down from the mountain. Note: bikes are allowed on this trail.
